The Digital Switchover begins in the Yorkshire region (which includes Harrogate) on August 3rd 2011 and now is the time to check if your current aerial is up to the job of handling the new digital signals. If not, you'll find yourself without television when the switchover occurs!
As well as your aerial, you'll also need to ensure your equipment can process the new digital signals. Most modern LCD and Plasma TVs purchased in the last couple of years have Freeview built in, and will feature the Freeview logo somewhere on the set. If you don't have the logo, or you have an older CRT television you will need a new set-top box in order to continue viewing.

Freeview
The majority of homes with an existing TV aerial will be able to access the new digital signal using Freeview set-top box. This provides you with more than 40 digital channels. However, in some instances, the age of the TV aerial and cabling means that the signal being received will be too weak for a satisfactory picture. In this case a new digital TV aerial will need to be fitted.
FreeSat
Where an adequate digital signal cannot be received via a TV aerial, digital television can be received via a satellite signal using a Freesat box and dish. This provides more than 150 televison and radio channels including HD content from BBC and ITV and no subscription is required.
